Meet Shannon

headshot 2Councilwoman Shannon Kane represents the Rose Hall district in Virginia Beach and was elected in 2014 by a huge margin, winning every district throughout Virginia Beach.   Since her election, Councilwoman Kane has been a champion of public safety by increasing funding for police officers and firefighters and has worked closely with the business community to bring higher paying jobs to Virginia Beach.

Shannon Kane is also well known as a Councilwoman who does the work that you don’t read about in the newspaper – helping the less fortunate and underprivileged, helping citizens throughout the city solve problems in neighborhoods and in City Hall, and making sure everyone’s voice is heard.

Councilwoman Kane created a commission to work on making the city services bill more affordable for more Virginia Beach citizens.  She also is a committed supporter to our public schools.

One of Councilwoman Kane’s initiatives that has been a big success is the We Feed Virginia Beach program.  The food collection program partners with neighborhoods, organizations, and the faith-based community for the benefit of students in Virginia Beach Schools who are facing food insecurities.

Shannon Kane is a small business owner in Virginia Beach who also is a strong advocate for the value of volunteerism and nonprofit groups in the community. She is President and founder of EWR Management Group in Virginia Beach, serves as President of the Board of the Alzheimer’s Association of Southeast Virginia, and is a member of the Beach Leadership

For her private sector success, Councilwoman Kane won the 2016 G&W Small Business Leader of the Year Award from the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.

Before starting her own business, she was Senior Director of Physicians for Peace, President of Junior Achievement of Greater Hampton Roads, Executive Director of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and District Director of the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

Councilwoman Kane is active in many civic groups, having formerly served as President of the Virginia Beach Jaycees, Chairman of the Lynnhaven River Day of VB2007, and Foundation President of the East Coast Surfing Championships.   She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications and Public Relations from James Madison University, and her favorite title of all is “wife and mom”.
